Literature Text

It's a world of multidimensional
statues which exalt
themselves with wise phrases.
Cold, gray, carved with ice metal,
the heavy hot sun presses down
while the roots push up and around.
Water plummets down from the sky,
from the sea, from the ocean.
Shrunken stone remains.
The carvings of an indecipherable memory.
A corroded futility.
Those who had carefully carved
or caressed it with soft fingers,
expecting immortality,
now are sure to scrape at their coffin
like the countless others
who find out when it's too late.
A free verse poem about how humans think they will live forever and do everything in their power to convince themselves that they will.

I like the use of statues as monuments, structures used for remembering certain figures/events.

The denseness of the poem sort of slows down the decaying process of the statue, despite the short length of the piece. It's as if the decay were in real time, yet you only have 10-20 lines here to tell us the process. Very good technique there :)

Overall, very cool poem.
